Mark Alexander - ObamaCare and the Culture of Death

Mark Alexander
From Patriot Post Vol. 09 No. 28; Published 16 July 2009

'The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.' --Thomas Jefferson

Now that Barack Hussein Obama has undermined free enterprise by nationalizing major financial and manufacturing sectors of our economy, he has set his sights on the health care sector, which comprises almost 18 percent of the U.S. economy.

This shouldn't surprise us. After all, he did promise a 'fundamental transformation of the United States of America,' and his chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, did cite the current economic crisis as the means for doing so. 'Rule 1: Never allow a crisis to go to waste,' Emanuel said. 'They are opportunities to do big things.'

Of course, there is NO constitutional authority or precedent for this massive government intrusion into the private sector. But then, when do Leftists look to any authority higher than themselves?"

Kremlin Calls Vice President Biden's Comments "Perplexing"

Kremlin Calls Vice President Biden's Comments "Perplexing"

via Orange County (CA) by Ed Royce on 7/27/09

If you're a White House or State Department official and see that Vice President Biden has an interview scheduled, you get nervous.

Coming on the heels of his trip to former Soviet republics Ukraine and Georgia, the Veep in a Wall Street Journal interview ("Biden Says Weakened Russia Will Bend to U.S.") predicted that Russia's weakening hand will force it to bend to U.S. interests in that region and beyond. Here is Biden on Russia: "I think we vastly underestimate the hand that we hold...They have a shrinking population base, they have a withering economy, they have a banking sector and structure that is not likely to be able to withstand the next 15 years, they're in a situation where the world is changing before them and they're clinging to something in the past that is not sustainable." Drawing on lessons from his father, Biden unbelievably followed this up by saying that it is never "smart to embarrass an individual or country." So much for lessons from dad... apparently a better diplomat.

Given that Biden's boss was in Moscow the other week talking about a "strong, peaceful and prosperous Russia," the Kremlin called Biden's comments "perplexing." That's an understatement. Attempting to pick up the pieces, Secretary of State Clinton told Meet the Press yesterday that "we view Russia as a great power."

Biden's lecture on the "structure" of Russia's economy isn't way off-base. But clearly it's of no help in negotiating with Moscow, as Secretary Clinton understands. And how does the Vice President's braggado sound to all the countries hurt by Wall Street's collapse? Or to those who watch this country rack up unsustainable government debt while we pray that others buy our Treasury bills?

Biden's poor form aside, his geopolitics are iffy. The Vice President calculates that Russia is now more likely to help curb Iran's nuclear program. But could it be that Russia's "withering" economy wouldn't mind seeing growing tensions in the Gulf to drive-up the price of oil? Remember, less than a year ago, a barrel of oil was sky-high and we were reading constant stories about the "resurgent" Russian bear. Vladimir Putin certainly remembers.

To cap off a bad week, Biden defended the economic "stimulus" package in yesterday's New York Times by writing that it was not intended to be "a jolt [for the economy] that would last only a few months." Yet just a few months ago Biden was talking up government spending as...yes, the "necessary jolt to our economy."

The Vice President won't be marginalized for his flubs. He isn't going to go just to funerals overseas. It is time for him to realize that his words matter.
